Partenza: SLC, arrivo in famiglia, scuola..

Ciao a tutti!
Non scrivo da troppo tempo quindi colgo l'occasione per raccontarvi qualcosa. Sono partita da ormai 15 giorni e sto iniziando ad ambientarmi.
Tenterò di raccontarvi in breve tutto ciò che ho trascorso.

SYDNEY
I tre giorni a Sydney sono stati bellissimi e anche molto utili. Mi è servito ad  iniziare a immedesimarmi nella vita australiana e a conoscere ragazzi che erano nella mia stessa situazione. E' stato un primo approccio alla nuova vita qui; penso che arrivare subito in famiglia sarebbe stato molto più difficile.

ARRIVO IN FAMIGLIA
In famiglia mi hanno subito accolta benissimo. Abbiamo già fatto delle gite: siamo stati a Sorrento (famosa località balneare), al Healesville Sanctuary (zoo) e sono stata con il mio host brother a un festival bellissimo a Melbourne. In famiglia sono tutti molto gentili e disponibili.
La casa e la località sono entrambe molto belle.

SCUOLA
Ho iniziato la scuola mercoledì scorso. Inizio informandovi di una cosa: avrete molte spese. L'uniforme costa moltissimo, ma ciò che davvero mi ha sorpreso è il costo dei libri (minimo 80 dollari ognuno). Io ho deciso di comprarne solo alcuni.
L'anno scolastico australiano si divide in 4 terms, io sarò qui solo per due di essi. Il primo term finisce a fine marzo e avremo poi due settimane di vacanza.
La scuola è davvero enorme, circa 1500 studenti e per questo è un po' dispersiva. E' difficile trovare le classi e anche ricordarsi tutte le persone.
Siamo divisi tutti in houses, che sono dei gruppi di appartenenza (come in Harry Potter).
L'anno in cui sono iscritta è l'11 e quindi riguardo alcune materie sono avvantaggiata (tipo in matematica, loro sono molto indietro).
La giornata di scuola è dalle 8.45 alle 3.10 per tre giorni, mentre altri due giorni finisce alle 2.30.
Le lezioni durano tutte un'ora e venti. Dopo la prima lezione c'è una pausa e dopo la terza c'è il pranzo (da portare da casa).

Scuola, visto, orientation..

Ciao a tutti!
E' da un po' che non scrivo nulla così oggi racconterò qualche novità.
Innanzitutto con la famiglia va tutto per il meglio; ci ho parlato più volte e mi sento spesso con la mia host sister. Sono molto disponibili e simpatici.
SCUOLA
Nel post precedente non ho fatto accenni alla scuola, poiché non ero ancora sicura di quale fosse, ora lo so con certezza.
La mia scuola si chiama Alkira Secondary College, è una scuola abbastanza vicina a casa e sembra molto bella dalle foto. Dovrò indossare l'uniforme e non so se esserne felice o no.
Sempre riguardo la scuola, due settimane fa la famiglia mi ha scritto per farmi scegliere le materie. Le materie a disposizione per gli exchange students sono poche, almeno nella mia scuola:

Alcune materie sono a pagamento per contributi agli strumenti che si useranno nelle lezioni.

VISTO
Per quanto riguarda il visto, dico solo che ci sono tantissimi fogli da compilare e documenti da inviare.

ORIENTATION
Inoltre il 13 dicembre c'è stata a Milano l'orientation della mia agenzia, Astudy, dove ho avuto qualche informazione in più sulla partenza e soprattutto ho incontrato i miei compagni di viaggio (con alcuni di loro avevo già parlato via internet). Ho anche ricevuto una action cam per inviare foto dall'Australia.

Ovviamente non abbiamo perso l'occasione di fare una foto con la nostra bellissima bandiera, anche se manca un compagno di viaggio!

Finally...HOST FAMILY!

Ciao a tutti!
Finalmente, dopo la data di partenza, mi hanno dato la famiglia. Oggi mi hanno scritto e sembrano fantastici.
Innanzitutto vivrò a Clyde North, un sobborgo di Melbourne che si trova a circa un'ora dal centro e a mezz'ora dalla prima spiaggia. Clyde North è un sobborgo circondato sia da fattorie che da una parte piena di negozi e cose da fare. Non hanno specificato la scuola, ma penso che lo saprò non appena gli risponderò.
I genitori  lavorano entrambi nel settore di salute mentale. La madre ha una figli che vive a casa una settimana sì e una no e ha 16 anni, e un figlio, che vive con suo padre e ogni tanto fa visita alla famiglia, ha 19 anni. Inoltre ho il double placement, cioè la famiglia ospita anche un altro ragazzo, che è svedese e ha la mia età.
Hanno tre cani e vivono in una casa nuova e grande. Avrò una mia stanza da letto e condividerò il bagno col ragazzo svedese. Io, lui e la mia host sister avremo anche un grande salone in cui mi hanno detto che possiamo invitare i nostri amici.
Non ho ancora ricevuto informazioni dall'agenzia, che di domenica è chiusa, ma di certo mi chiamerà a breve e avrò tutte le novità.
Sono davvero contentissima perché sono capitata in un posto fantastico e la famiglia sembra perfetta.

Dossier, documenti, partenza che si avvicina...

Ciao a tutti,
è tantissimo che non scrivo, quindi questo post sarà forse più lungo del solito. Sono passati quasi due mesi e mezzo dall'ultimo post in cui raccontavo l'invio del dossier. Nel mentre sono andata in vacanza più volte, sono tornata, e ora mi ritrovo a scuola.
Dopo due mesi di dubbi, tredici giorni fa, esattamente il 15 settembre, la mia agenzia mi ha mandato la correzione del dossier. inutile raccontare quanti errori ho fatto, per fortuna ho cambiato un po' di cose. Mi hanno chiesto inoltre di inviare le pagelle e il passaporto.

Passaporto

Quello che ho sempre desiderato fare e mai ho fatto. Finalmente ho inviato i moduli e, dopo svariati tentativi per fare delle foto decenti (tre foto da giugno ad ora), ho portato tutti i documenti in questura e ho richiesto il passaporto, che dovrebbe arrivarmi tra circa una settimana.

Il mio dossier è perciò stato corretto ma soprattutto inviato alla SCCE, la mia agenzia estera. Questo significa una cosa molto importante: il 15 settembre è iniziata la ricerca della mia host family.

Mi sento catapultata in un nuovo mondo: ho passato mesi a non pensare alla mia partenza poiché più ci si pensa e meno arriva velocemente e ora mi ritrovo qui, il countdown segna -124.

Meno centoventiquattro. E' una data incerta, non ho neanche una data a cui aggrapparmi. Non ho una data, non ho una città, non ho una famiglia. Ho solo la certezza che, tra circa quattro mesi, sarò su un aereo che mi porterà dall'altra parte del mondo.

Mi ritrovo qui a pensare a cosa farò, a chi sarò. Vedo i miei amici exchange, la maggior parte già partiti. Ci sono alti e bassi, devo essere pronta ad affrontare anche i bassi. Bisogna sentirsi all'altezza di quest'esperienza e io solo ora inizio ad accorgermi di quanto poco manchi alla mia partenza.

A volte non realizzo ancora: io, che non ho neanche mai avuto il passaporto, tra qualche mese sarò nel paese dei miei sogni. Lascerò tutto per inseguire ciò che voglio, per inseguire me stessa.

Non so ancora tutte le difficoltà che mi aspettano, ma voglio vivere questi mesi con gioia, senza pensarci troppo né troppo poco: voglio lasciare che le cose facciano il proprio corso, senza essere pessimista, ma neanche troppo ottimista.

Consapevole che, qualunque cosa capiti, quest'esperienza mi segnerà nel profondo, come già sta facendo con tutti gli altri exchange students. Voglio viverla al meglio.

E' da tanto che non scrivo un post, ma non ho avuto novità. La mia partenza è ancora molto lontana.
Intanto ho incontrato i miei amici exchange a Milano (solo alcuni di loro purtroppo) e abbiamo passato una bellissima giornata.

Comunque, ho finalmente finito il dossier! Sono molto emozionata.

Spero di avere la famiglia al più presto, sono molto curiosa di sapere dove andrò.

Dear host family,

I cannot believe I am finally writing this letter. I have been waiting for so long for my dream to be realised, and now that the moment has come I am very happy and excited.

My name is Arianna, it is a Greek name and it means “holy”. As it is not very popular out of Italy, every foreign person calls me Ariana because it is easier. I am a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in the north west of Italy. I live in Collegno, a town very close to a big city named Torino. I live in the Piemonte region which is located in the north, and occupies a large area of the Po valley. Collegno is an hour away from the mountain range of the Alps, so I am more used to the mountains and the countryside than the seaside. Other than in the summer, the weather here is often cold, and it’s usually cloudy. I like living here because it is a big city and has many means of transport and facilities. I do not like living here because I like hot and sunny weather and I love the seaside. When I am older, I hope to move to another city.

My family consists of four members: my father, my mother, my older sister and me. My father, Amedeo, is a clerk and he works at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He and I have a lot of things in common such as our shared the passion for travelling. When I was young I used to spend a lot of time in the afternoon with him, which is now difficult for me due to my lack of time because of school. My father was born in the southern-Italy-region of Molise, but he came here when he was very young. My mother, Maria, is a secretary and she works for a toll road enterprise. She was born in the south of Italy as well and comes from the Puglia region. She is very willing to listen to me and always helpful. Since I was a child, she has successfully tried to have a good relationship with sister and I, based on a reciprocal faith and on effective communication among us. I get along quite well with both of my parents, and luckily we hardly ever argue. My sister, Alessia, is twenty-one years old. She studies Business and Economics at a university. I have a special relationship with her, she is like a best friend to me. We always confide in each other and she often gives me good advice. Sometimes we argue, like all the sisters do, but we always make up quickly. Our whole family lives in a flat and I share my bedroom with my sister.

At first impression, I can appear as a shy person, but when I get to know someone better I quickly become very talkative and friendly. I am very ambitious and very determined to reach my goals and hopes. Some of my flaws are my laziness, as well as that I am sometimes moody or impulsive. However, I am rarely sad; I always try to be positive and to think about the good things I have instead of what I do not have. With my family I am obedient and I always try to be nice and kind with other people.

I currently attend a scientific High School, which is composed of five years. I am in my third. It is called “scientific” because we have a more hours of Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics lessons. The only language I study at school, other than Latin, is English. I have always liked it, though I do not know why. Even though I do not study it at school, I love the Spanish language as well. I have been studying it at home for five years and can now speak it very well. My favourite subjects are Maths (I know it is a bit strange) and English. I have not yet made up my mind about what I will study at university, but one possible option is Medicine, due to my hopes of becoming a doctor.

Even though I am sometimes lazy, I cannot stay long without doing anything because I get bored very quickly. I would like to have more free time but unfortunately school occupies most of my time. In fact, I always study a lot.

I do not like sports very much and I do not consider myself an athletic person. Instead, I prefer defining myself more as an intellectual. Still, I practice physical exercise at the gym because I think that fitness is very important. I go to the gym two or three times a week, it depends on the homework amounts I receive from school. I have been going to the gym for only six months but I enjoy it. I used to go swimming as well as dancing, but I stopped because I was not gifted at it.

During winter I like skiing. I have been able to ski since I was a child and I love it.

I’m interested in football, and in fact sometimes watch it on TV. I have never been to a stadium but I would like to go, and I think I will do it very soon.

Music is one of my passions. I like all kinds of music but my favourite types are pop and alternative. I also like watching movies, especially romance and comedies. Sometimes I try to watch movies in other languages, like Spanish or English. In Spanish I understand quite everything but in English it is still too difficult for me.

I also love reading. I would like to have more time to read many books. I especially prefer romantic and fantasy books, but also classics and drama. Some of my favourite books are “The Kite Runner”, “The Hunger Games” saga, and “Of Love And Other Demons”. I also love reading poems and I am fascinated by literature.

Branching from my love of reading, I love writing stories, novels, and poems. I have started writing a lot of novels but unfortunately have never finished them.

When I am bored, I like drawing but as I am not very good at it, I do not dedicate much time to it.

On weekends, I enjoy spending time with my friends. My best friend’s name is Madalina and we have known each other for three years, even though we only started to be friends last year. We are in the same class at school and we do everything together: things such as study together or going out to the library. She’s always there for me, and every time I need her, she helps me. I know that whatever happens, we can rely on each other.

I get on well with all of my classmates and we often go out for a pizza or simply go to the city centre: it has a lot of shops and is a really nice place to go walking.

I have another friend, who is very important for me, named Beatriz. Unfortunately, Beatriz lives in Madrid, the capital of Spain so I do not see her often. I met her last summer on holiday and since then we have become very good friends. In a few weeks I will go to Madrid so we can meet. I also love spending time with my family. Almost every Sunday, in April to October, I meet my relatives at my house in the mountains where we eat a lot and spend time together.

My biggest passion is travelling. I cannot explain how much travelling is important for me. If I were more wealthy, I would travel all over the world. I want to discover every place on Earth. I love travelling because through it, I can discover other cultures and other realities of the world. I am very interested in foreign cultures and languages. Travelling is the best way to learn about the world.

When I travel I love taking photos, because I think they are the best way to remember experiences. I also love buying souvenirs, and in fact, have a collection of them.

You are probably wondering why I decided to do this exchange experience. As I mentioned, it is because of my love for travelling and discovering foreign cultures. I would also like to improve my English skills. I think the best way to discover another country’s culture is to live there for a period, so I decided to do it and hope it will be the best experience of my life. I am very grateful to my parents that understand how much this experience is important for me and allowed me decide to do it.

I chose Australia because it is a country that has always fascinated me. It is very far from Italy, and so most people here do not know anything about Australia. I know it has a lot of beautiful cities and landscapes, as well as uncontaminated nature. Moreover, as Australia is very far, I think my experience will be more complete, because I am going to stay very far from my home and what is familiar for six months.

When I am there, I hope to improve my English but also to make a lot of friends. I would like to travel as much as possible and to visit a lot of cities. I hope to discover the Australian culture but also to teach and explain about Italian culture.

I am sure I will quickly feel part of your family and I am very thankful to you, for deciding to host me and for giving me the biggest opportunity of my life. I hope I will learn a lot from you and that you will learn from me, as I would like this experience to be wonderful not just for me, but also for you. I can’t wait to meet you and I’m looking forward to go to Australia!

Holidays in Spain

Ciao a tutti!
E' da un po' che non scrivo sul blog, ne approfitto per raccontare delle novità che non riguardano il mio viaggio in Australia, ma comunque la mia passione di viaggiare.
Infatti ad aprile sono stata a Madrid per 5 giorni. E' stato un viaggio fantastico, la città è davvero bella e mi sono trovata molto bene, purtroppo è durato poco!
Anche qui ho approfittato per scattare tantissime foto che ho poi riunito in un video.

"APPROVATO" e novità varie!

Hey guys! Finalmente trovo il tempo di scrivere un nuovo post. No, vi dico la verità. Ho avuto un piccolo problem: ho sbagliato la compilazione di una parte della domanda per la borsa di studio quindi per scaramanzia non ho pubblicato nulla, fino all'approvazione, che è stata..... OGGI! Non potrei essere più felice, finalmente è ufficiale: il mio sogno di realizzerà!
Per il resto.. che dire? Per questo problema ho anche interrotto per un po' la compilazione del dossier, ma solo per poco, infatti ho una grande novità: ho scritto la lettera. E' venuta meglio di ciò che speravo e sono contenta del risultato. Non appena manderò il dossier all'agenzia la pubblicherò qua!
Intanto, vi mostro a che punto sono con la compilazione:

Sono un po' indietro, ma partendo a gennaio ho tempo e posso fare le cose con calma!
